This piece changes perspectives and adds concrete experiences to abstract concepts. I recommend for everyone to truly read and submerge themselves in this wonderful poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Poem Of Love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Lisel Mueller, March 1964<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not about her, who turns dancer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">in the space he illumines by waiting,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">not about his leaping impatience&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">which praises the dust of her lightness\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but about the contender, the brilliant third,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">who trips them and drives them away<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to watch him from separate wings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not about words fetched and carried<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">like fruit from one to the other,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">not about moments that gush from unorthodox light<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and settle into the landscape\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but about words that the wind bites off,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">moments burned out in expectation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">arriving piecemeal, dead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not about night and the bridge<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">it stretches from runner to runner,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">not about sexual grace\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but about the [narrow opening] between lovers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">wide enough for the swallow that whistles goodbye<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to shiver into and wait out the storm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">of their forgetful embracing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If about love at all,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">then about love in another country<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">or love imagine to music\u2014-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">more often about things missing or broken,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the boomerang of desire, the heart\u2019s despair,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the shakedown after this spell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not written by lovers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Hiliana Arroyo, Guest Writer I love \u201cThe Poem of Love\u201d by Lisel Mueller because of the perspective it adds to the many definitions of love!
