The Language House (located at 12 Park Street), which is home to a community of language enthusiasts, recently hosted a Mardi Gras party on Tuesday, February 13th. Despite the official time set for the event being 5:30pm to 7pm, the festivities extended well into the evening as students reveled in the carnival spirit. Over 40 people joined in the celebration, transforming the cozy confines of the Language House into a lively carnival haven.
Colorful decorations adorned every corner of the house and disguises were left to those with the cheeriest spirit. Attendees were treated to an array of delights including a taco bar, hot chocolate, a crepes station, irresistible fried dough, and king’s cakes in which a little baby (yes, you read that right) was hidden, symbolizing good luck and prosperity for whoever happened to find, or bite into, it.
Adding to the festive vibe was the rhythm of carnival jazz music, filling the air and inspiring impromptu dance moves from the enthusiastic crowd of students and teachers.
The Mardi Gras party at the Language House was an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in traditions of this iconic celebration originating from medieval Europe and later brought to the Americas by French settlers, traditionally marking the final day of indulgence before the solemn season of Lent. The party encapsulated a spirit of community and cultural exchange while forging bonds between students and fellow language enthusiasts.
